IT SUPPORT ASSISTANT

LOCATION: Flimby, Maryport
COMPANY: Thomas Armstrong (Holdings) Ltd

Thomas Armstrong Ltd have an opening within their very busy IT department for an IT Support Assistant. The successful candidate will provide 1st line technical support for both hardware and software issues to head office users and remote site users. Support to users will be provided in person, over the phone, and via remote desktop support software. The role is very varied with every day being different; as such the ability to adapt and work under pressure is essential. Whilst training in some areas will be given it is expected that the successful candidate will have an acquired level of understanding and experience of working in IT.

 

Duties include:

  • Laptop and PC installations
  • Software installations
    • Window 10
    • Office 365
    • Anti-virus software
    • 3rd party software
  • Hardware fault diagnosis and repair
  • Website content management
  • Monitoring helpdesk tickets and responding to them within agreed time frames
  • ERP support
  • Mobile phone configuration
  • IT hardware and software ordering
  • Occasional remote site visits (a clean full driving license will be preferred)
  • Processing of invoices for procured items
  • Keeping support documentation up to date
  • Any other 1st line support issues that the business requires

 

The following qualities will be essential: 

  • A keen interest in, and an aptitude for, IT and technology
  • Able to demonstrate a basic understanding of IT hardware
  • An intermediate level understanding of website content management
  • Familiar with well-known software such as Windows 10 and Office 365 products
  • Excellent communication skills and a confident phone manner
  • Meticulous and attentive to detail with the weekly processing of orders and invoices

TRAINEE PLANT OPERATIVE(S)

LOCATIONS:

Thomas Armstrong (Concrete Blocks) Limited is the largest Concrete Block manufacturer in the UK. 

Due to a period of growth, over the next few months we are looking to recruit a number of Trainee Plant Operative positions to support various works areas that have arisen at our Rowlands Gill, Pickhill and Flusco sites.

Trainee(s) are responsible for their own safety and the safe operation of their area.  They will report to the Team Leader on a daily basis and are responsible for supporting all aspects of the operations to ensure team objectives and ultimately customer excellence is achieved.  Within the, role you will ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with local and works procedures in order to provide a safe working environment.

As a trainee, you will have responsibility for:

  • Health & Safety performance adhering to works procedures and involvement in various safety activities;

  • Having sufficient competence and flexibility to work in any of the manufacturing areas where required, this may include:
    • Loading Shovel
    • Fork Lift Truck
    • Mechanical Plant Areas
    • Electrical Works
    • Welding

  • Operation of equipment within their work areas to defined procedures to achieve agreed objectives;

  • Involvement in line operations, which can involve operation of FLT and mobile plant and equipment;

  • Aspects of the job may include manual handling and working at height;

  • Involvement in continuous improvement activities;

  • Participation in audits/checks, ensuring compliance with work procedures and set quality standards;

  • Liaising with other functions, including production, transport and others to ensure efficient material flow.

Ideally, applicants will be educated to GCSE standard or equivalent and experience of working within a manufacturing environment would be preferred.

Candidates for these roles will demonstrate good team working skills and abilities.  They should have problem solving skills and decision-making capability and will be self-starters who can demonstrate a proactive attitude to work and a willingness to learn.

Within these roles, Trainees will be required to develop their educational skills and knowledge by undertaking various learning and development opportunities.

The ability to be mobile around the site is essential.

PRODUCTION OPERATIVE

LOCATION: Workington, Cumbria

We are seeking to recruit a Production Operative to work at our Lakes Road Site in Workington.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company working in the manufacturing of precast, pre-stressed concrete floor panels and beams.

Work includes operating in a busy production facility and working on a production line to ensure the timely and efficient manufacture of product.

Main duties include: Production Operative/ Labourer (Applicants who have a ticket for Fork Lift Truck Operations would be advantageous)

Hours of work are:          

7.00am – 3.30pm Monday to Thursday

7:00 am – 2:30pm Friday

(Occasional overtime available on Saturday mornings)                                   

 

Competitive Hourly Rate.

 

Experience preferred but not essential as full training will be given on commencement.

ESTIMATOR / TRAINEE ESTIMATOR

ACP (Concrete) Ltd, part of the Thomas Armstrong Group, is a specialist pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete products manufacturer in the UK. The Thomas Armstrong Group have continually grown and developed as a business since 1830. We are currently looking for a dedicated, reliable and enthusiastic person to join our small specialist team based at our Head Office in Flimby, Maryport.

 

Reporting directly to the Sales Manager, the ‘Estimator’ will be a key collaborator for new and existing relationships for estimating bidding, providing an advanced manufacturing solution that delivers high-quality and cost-effective products.

 

No ‘essential’ experience is necessary as all relevant training & development will be given in-house.

 

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Creation of accurate and timely quotes;
  • Communicate with the client to clarify any points that are not clear;
  • Build and cost the quote (on the in-house configurator system);
  • Send the quote to the customer by email Via our in-house quotes system;
  • Record all relevant information in the company system and set up follow ups;
  • Undertake any revisions and changes as per the customer request;
  • Prepare final order confirmation and send to customer for approval;
  • Discuss with the customer payment options and agree the best way forward;
  • Care for the customer and the enquiry through from receiving the lead to order;
  • Liaise with our designers and factory for manufacture.

 

Skills, attributes and qualifications:

  • Good telephone manner and professional approach to customers;
  • Good written/administration skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • An basic understanding of estimation tools and techniques (i.e. the processes of estimating resources, durations and costs);
  • Technically minded – desirable;
  • Experience in interacting with customers in a sales/estimating environment;
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written;
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills;
  • Commercially aware;
  • Full driving licence preferred but not essential.

SITE MANAGER (Construction)

To manage the day to day running of a Construction Project Site to ensure the project is delivered to programme and to the client’s specification and satisfaction and that work practices are compliant with all relevant legislation.  The Site Manager is responsible for the implementation and compliance of the Company’s policies and procedures on site including adherence to the Company’s Business Management System.  The Site Manager will deliver Inductions and appropriate Toolbox Talks.


QUANTITY SURVEYOR/ SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR (Construction & Private Development)

To manage allocated Contracts in a quantity surveying capacity, ensuring the Company’s policies and procedures and Business Management System are followed.  The Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor will ensure the contract is delivering the optimum value for the Company, and that the Contract’s costs and current value are reported to management accurately and in a timely manner.   The QS/SQS will publish relevant documents to Union Square and use 4PS system to process relevant payments.

CASUAL GATEHOUSE SECURITY GUARD

LOCATION: Flimby, Maryport

SALARY: £8.91 per hour

We are looking to recruit a “Casual” Security Guard to cover various holiday shifts and any emergency leave that may arise.  You will be required to work 12 hours shifts which can vary between days, nights and weekends.  

 

An SIA Licence and previous experience in corporate security is preferred but not essential.  

 

As you will be our first point of contact for staff and visitors, it is essential that you are friendly, polite and smartly dressed.  You need to be familiar with electronic technology (i.e. telephone, Microsoft Outlook, CCTV monitoring/operating).

 

Health and Safety is paramount whilst working on site and is crucial that all policies and procedures are followed, you will be provided with full site training and relevant PPE.

 

To be considered, you will need:

  • Industry experience and background in security (preferred);
  • Willingness to be flexible in working hours;
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication;
  • Able to maintain effective records/monitoring systems;
  • An enthusiastic, self-motivated and flexible approach;
  • Ability to work as part of a team, but also on own initiative.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all security requirements are met in line with site instructions including monitoring of CCTV surveillance systems;
  • Access and egress control via access barriers and pedestrian gates;
  • Booking HGV’s and staff vehicles in and out of site;
  • Conducting patrols if and when required;
  • Dealing with site staff and visitors in a professional manner;
  • Completing any necessary paperwork and reporting;
  • Supervise and control site access.

Main duties include

Hours of work: 

7:30am – 16:15pm Monday to Friday - basic 37.5 hours per week

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company working in the manufacturing of pre-packed aggregates.

 

Work includes operating in a busy production facility and working to ensure the timely and efficient manufacture and delivery of the product.

 

Main duties include: General Operative/ Fork Lift Truck, Dumper, Loading Shovel Operator/ Labourer

 

Normal hours of work:  7:00am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday (30 minutes unpaid lunch break).  39 hours paid at basic rate and remainder at overtime rate.

 

Holiday entitlement: 21 days annual holiday plus Statutory Bank Holidays.

 

You will be required to work overtime as and when necessary during busy times.

 

In return, we offer a competitive rate of pay plus weekly production bonus.
