HOL112 - Group Health & Safety Advisor

Health & Safety Advisor role with regional travel, focused on site inspections, compliance audits and supporting teams to uphold strong safety standards and culture.

The post is based at our Head Office in Flimby, Maryport; however, the role requires travel to various sites and plants throughout Cumbria, Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

As the Health & Safety Advisor, you will have a firm understanding of the construction and manufacturing industry, with the main responsibility of undertaking safety inspections on all active sites on a monthly basis. You will audit against the health and safety policy, relevant legislation, and best practice within the industry. You will be responsible for producing reports and assisting the site teams to close out any actions that have arisen in a timely manner.

You will be responsible for continuing to embed the positive Health and Safety culture across our sites, including building strong relationships with the site and operational teams and ensuring compliance through training, coaching and mentoring of colleagues. You will support the Group H&S Director with any projects which contribute to the overall departmental aims and objectives.


Responsibilities of the role

• Provide professional, technical, practical and competent health, safety and wellbeing advice, guidance and support as required.

• Have an in-depth knowledge of the companies Health and Safety policies and procedures.

• Undertake monthly (or as required) site safety inspections both where TAC are the Principal Contractor and / or Client under the CDM Regulations.

• Ensuring the company is legally compliant with all health and safety legislation and keeping up to date with any legislative changes.

• Investigate and report (where required) to the Group H&S Director all potential RIDDOR, accidents, incidents and near misses.

• Ensuring the relevant HSE advice, support, guidance and management is communicated to the site teams.

• Review Principal Contractors Construction Phase Plans (CPP) where TAC are the client.

• Keeping up to date with industry best practice.

• Liaising with relevant external regulatory / enforcement authorities (HSE / EA etc).

• Responsibility to ensure that employees receive the relevant training, coaching and mentoring to manage, monitor and improve the health and safety standards in the workplace.

• Championing and driving a positive health and safety ethos/attitude throughout the company.

• To promote best practice and lessons learnt through the relevant communication channels.

• Ensuring active measures are used to prevent ill health throughout the business.

Skills and Knowledge

• Appropriate qualification holding a NEBOSH certificate or working towards

• Industry background in general Construction or Civil Engineering

• Appropriate IT skills including the use of company software packages

• High level communication and negotiation skills

• Information management skills

• Ability to motivate and influence people

• Time management skills

• Decision making and problem solving within extent of personal responsibility.
