CON126 - ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT
Purpose of Role
Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the Assistant Accountant will provide hands-on support to the small finance team, making a positive contribution to the efficient processing and delivery of accurate accounting information in a timely manner for all departments within the company.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with managing the subcontractor ledger, ensuring subcontractor payments are processed correctly and CIS returns are submitted accurately and on time.
• Work closely with the QS team to support the raising of monthly payment notices.
• Provide support with monthly project costing processes.
• Work with the team to process purchase invoices for the Plant department and recharge costs as required.
• Complete supplier statement reconciliations.
• Complete inter-company reconciliations.
• Assist with cash book entries and reconciliations.
• Assist with processing wages postings.
• Support the gathering, preparation, and formatting of data for submission of VAT returns to HMRC.
• Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare monthly management accounts for selected departments within TAC.
• Support fixed asset management processes.
• Test quarterly upgrades of the 4PS accounting system and highlight any errors for resolution before going live.
• Develop knowledge of the accounts system to help ensure the team can support users across the company when issues arise.
• Assist with the preparation of the financial statements.
• Support the team during the external annual audit.
Skills and Experience
• Previous experience within an accounts or finance role, ideally within a construction or project-based environment.
• Good working knowledge of accounting processes, including purchase ledger, subcontractor ledger, reconciliations, VAT, CIS, and management accounts support.
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to process financial information accurately.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and support practical solutions.
• Good organisational skills with the ability to manage workload effectively and meet deadlines.
• Confident working with accounting systems, Microsoft excel and outlook.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across departments and provide support to system users when required.
• Willingness to learn, develop knowledge of internal systems, and support continuous improvement within the finance team.
• A proactive, team-focused approach with the flexibility to assist with ad hoc accounts and administrative duties as required.
