Goodbye Frank

Thomas Armstrong Group says fair well to one of its longest serving employees, General Manager and Director of Thomas Armstrong aggregates, Frank Harkness. Frank will retire this week after working at the Flimby based company for over 42 years.

Frank joined Thomas Armstrong Aggregates as a HGV mechanic in April 1972 when the business was still based in Cockermouth. His career progressed quickly and within a few months he was promoted to Workshop Foreman. His career moved on and in 1975 he was promoted to Transport Manager of Thomas Armstrong Aggregates, a position held for some time until a dual promotion saw him take on the roles of Group Transport Manager and General Manager of Thomas Armstrong Aggregates in 1986 when the business moved to its headquarters in Flimby.

A short time later Frank was invited to become a director of Thomas Armstrong Aggregates, which is a position he has held up until his retirement.

Group Chief Executive Keith Denham said “Frank has been an absolute credit to the firm throughout his career at Thomas Armstrong. His commitment and dedication over the years has been exemplary and we thank him for all his hard work and wish him, his wife and the family well in his retirement”

Franks keys haven’t quite been hung up for the last time. The firm have asked him to be available for times when they are looking at purchasing new HGV’s or plant machinery and can call on his advice and 42 years of industry experience.

Frank said that he is looking forward to his retirement and spending more time with the grand children, increasing his time walking on the Lakeland fells with his wife and enjoying getting the BSA motorbike out of the garage for a ‘blast’.
