Our Environment and Sustainability Commitment

We have an ongoing programme of installing Environmental Management Systems in all our manufacturing facilities in line with the requirements of ISO 14001:2015. This process is well underway, and we achieved our first full certification for the Airtec Aerated block process in March 2009. Furthermore, we are continually looking for ways of eliminating waste in our facilities by streamlining processes, installing energy efficient equipment and minimising the needless loss of heat which can be used to cure the blocks.

Thomas Armstrong (Concrete Blocks) Ltd is committed to preventing pollution and to conducting its operational and business activities in an environmentally responsible manner.

We are full members of British Precast's Sustainability Charter scheme. This requires all members to be independently audited each year at each manufacturing site. Detailed evidence is then gathered and analysed to determine performance in all required areas including utilities usages, energy-saving measures, employee welfare, training, responsible sourcing of raw materials.

We are adopting the highly regarded UK Responsible Sourcing standard BES 6001 at our sites.

As well as ensuring that our products are sustainable and the constituent materials are responsibly sourced, we are continually monitoring our generation of greenhouse gases and look for ways to further reduce this.

In July 2017, our new plant in Leeds (formerly known as Stocks Bros Ltd) achieved the EXCELLENT status. Only the second block plant to have ever achieved this after our Airtec block plant gained this in August 2015.
