Airtec (Aerated Blocks)

THOMAS ARMSTRONG are now producing the full range of Airtec Aerated blocks from their new factory at Catterick.

Thomas Armstrong’s extensive range of top quality building products is now enhanced by the introduction of our brand new AIRTEC range of autoclaved aerated concrete (aac) blocks.

AIRTEC products are designed to meet and exceed all current and future regulations and are manufactured using the very latest production technology, in the most technologically advanced aac facility in the UK.

The high specification of the AIRTEC range and significant investment
in choosing to use the very best materials and technology available demonstrates our ongoing commitment to quality and excellence in our products. With 175 years of manufacturing expertise, only the very best will do!

EXCEPTIONAL TECHNICAL PERFORMANCE!

AIRTEC blocks are certified by the BBA and other UKAS accredited 3rd party bodies to show complete complience with all regulations and standards. In fact, specifications exceed standard aerated concrete as follows:

  • Thermal values exceeding typical aerated block values - a new standard has been set!
  • The very best possible dimensional tolerance for traditional and thin-layer mortar construction - 'TLMB' (Thin-Layer Mortar category B. This exceeds category A).
  • Class A1 Fire-Resistance - there is no better fire rating category for construction products!

The reason? The advanced and completely unique AIRTEC process developed by Thomas Armstrong Ltd that takes aerated concrete production to a new level of excellence!

A UNIQUE PROCESS

The AIRTEC process is unlike any other Aircrete process in the UK. The AIRTEC manufacturing process allows for much greater control and consistency in quality than the 40 year old technology still widely employed elsewhere. AIRTEC production represents the next level in aircrete technology!

QUALITY BLOCKS

Due to the advanced AIRTEC process, our blocks are much more resilient to handling and transportation than many other aircrete blocks. They will not chip and break during transportation to site as many other aircrete blocks will, meaning less waste of money and time for our customers.

HIGH SPECIFICATION

AIRTEC blocks are manufactured to the very latest European Standard BS EN 771-4 which replaces the old British Standard BS 6073-1.
This means that AIRTEC blocks not only meet the requirements of the current British Standards, but exceeds them in terms of specification and performance.

APPROVALS   Click here to download the BBA certificate

  • All AIRTEC Wall and Foundation blocks are BBA (British Board of Agrément) Certified to the very latest technical standards; Certificate No. 06/4309
  • All AIRTEC production is Quality Assurance approved to BS EN ISO 9001:2000; Certificate No. 06/Q006.
  • All AIRTEC products are approved for CE marking.
  • Airtec block specifications in accordancde with the very latest British European Standard BS EN 771-4 : 2003.

THE AIRTEC PROCESS

  • The primary raw material for the manufacture of our Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) utilizes Pulverised Fuel Ash (PFA) a waste by-product from coal fired power generation.

  • Operating at 24 hours per day, 5 days per week our Catterick factory produces 1 million square meters of 100mm Aerated Blocks a year.

  • Our process is designed to maximise energy efficiency by transferring steam from autoclave to autoclave.

  • Used steam is not discharged as waste heat, but is finally condensed to generate useful hot water for the manufacturing process.

  • No by-products are sent for waste disposal.

  • The small percentage of by-product is processed for use as a raw material in our Aggregate Concrete Block manufacturing plants.

  • Our unique process utilizes 100% dry raw materials.

  • Our Foundation Blocks are designed and manufactured with hand holes for ease of handling.

THE PRODUCT

Airtec blocks in useThe standard range of blocks are all 620mm in length, 215mm high with a range of thicknesses from 100mm to 215mm in strengths of 2.9N/mm², 3.6N/mm² and 7.3N/mm²

Foundation blocks have been designed to a height of 140mm offering the groundworker a minimum course height of 280mm rather than the conventional 430mm reducing both the depth of the founds and the amount of mortar required.

The length size of 620mm was chosen as increasingly government legislation for thermal and sound applications is placing even greater demands on manufacturers to comply to.

With thermal 'U' values currently targeted for 0.30 W/m²K next year and 0.27 W/m²K for 2008 it is clear that with a thermal gain of 10% using the Airtec 620mm block will offer flexibility in design methods.

Thomas Armstrong also have a technical department which can offer you advice and guidelines for use in constructing separating walls, party walls, flanking walls and load bearing walls.
